The Subject
What General Maths demands
General Mathematics is a QCE General subject focused on using maths to solve practical problems. Units 3 and 4, the ones that count toward the final result, cover bivariate data and time series analysis, sequences, Earth geometry, loans, investments and annuities, and networks.
Assessment follows the standard senior maths structure: a problem-solving and modelling task (IA1, 20%), two internal exams (IA2 and IA3, 15% each), and an external exam worth 50% of the subject. Strong marks come from careful working and interpreting answers in context, and half the subject is decided in the external exam.
In our High School Group Tutoring program, General Maths students work with ATAR 99+ tutors on whatever their school is assessing right now: support with the modelling task, targeted revision before internal exams, and past-paper practice for the external.

How General Maths support runs
General Maths is covered within High School Group Tutoring, our program for Years 7–12.
Small groups of 4–6
Each tutor supports 4–6 students, checking working and clearing up confusion one-on-one within the group session.
Your assessment, your pace
Bring the current topic, the modelling task draft, or revision for the next exam. Tutors prioritise what is most urgent for you that week.
Weekly sessions, real practice
Sessions of 2–3 hours after school on weekdays and through Saturday, with past papers and timed practice in the lead-up to exams.

Do you run a separate General Maths class?
General Maths support runs inside our High School Group Tutoring program for Years 7–12. Students work on their own subjects in small groups while a tutor circulates, so General Maths students get individual help without a dedicated class.
Who tutors General Maths?
Our high school tutors are ATAR 99+ graduates who sat QCAA exams within the last few years. They know the current assessment structure firsthand and coach toward the criteria students are actually marked against.
How is General Mathematics assessed?

Is General Maths the right choice compared to Maths Methods?
They are different subjects for different pathways. General Maths focuses on applied topics like statistics, financial maths, and networks, while Methods is built around calculus. The right choice depends on your goals and intended study; our tutors are happy to talk through where a student sits in either subject.
How much does tutoring cost?
High school group sessions are $70 for 2 hours or $100 for 3 hours, billed per term in advance. The full fee schedule is on our pricing page.
