The Subject
What Specialist Maths demands
Specialist Mathematics is widely considered the most demanding maths subject in the QCE. Units 3 and 4, the summative units, cover complex numbers in polar form, proof by mathematical induction, vectors in two and three dimensions, further calculus and differential equations, and statistical inference.
Assessment mirrors the other senior maths subjects: a problem-solving and modelling task (IA1, 20%), two internal exams (IA2 and IA3, 15% each), and an external exam worth 50% of the final result. The content moves quickly at school, and gaps compound faster here than in most other subjects.
Our High School Group Tutoring program gives Specialist students room to slow down and rebuild. ATAR 99+ tutors work through proofs and problem sets with you, using your school's materials and past papers, until the method is yours rather than memorised.

Specialist Maths is covered within High School Group Tutoring, our program for Years 7–12.
Small groups of 4–6
A tutor works closely with 4–6 students. For a subject this dense, that means your questions get answered in the session they come up, not weeks later.
Built on your coursework
Bring school problem sets, assignment drafts, or past papers. Tutors work through your hardest questions rather than re-teaching a generic course.
Weekly rhythm, every subject
Sessions of 2–3 hours on weekday afternoons and Saturdays. Many students split a session between Specialist and their other subjects as deadlines shift.

Do you run a separate Specialist Maths class?
Specialist support runs inside our High School Group Tutoring program for Years 7–12. Students work on their own subjects in small groups of 4–6 while a tutor circulates, so Specialist students get individual help without needing a dedicated class.
Who tutors Specialist Maths?
Our high school tutors are ATAR 99+ graduates who sat QCAA exams within the last few years. Several achieved top marks in the state. They have recent, firsthand experience with the exact assessment Specialist students face.
How is Specialist Mathematics assessed?
Units 3 and 4 count toward the final result: a problem-solving and modelling task (IA1, 20%), two internal exams (IA2 and IA3, 15% each), and an external exam worth 50% of the subject.
Can students get help with both Specialist and Maths Methods?
Yes. Because students work on their own material within the group, you can bring Specialist work one week and Methods work the next, or split a single session between both. There is no extra cost for covering multiple subjects.
How much does tutoring cost?
